Chevron Houston Marathon

The Chevron Houston Marathon offers participants a unique running experience in America's fourth largest city. The fast, flat, scenic single-loop course has been ranked as the "fastest winter marathon" and "second fastest marathon overall" by Ultimate Guide To Marathons. Additionally, with more than 200,000 spectators, Ultimate Guide to Marathons has ranked the Chevron Houston Marathon the fourth most crowd-supported marathon.

Several Ujena Fit Club members are running this marathon including Fernando Cabada who wants to get under 2:10 which would bring him up to the next level. Good luck Fernando!!!!

Aramco Houston Half Marathon

  • The start line for the Aramco Houston Half Marathon is in front of Minute Maid Park, just north of the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB). Please note that there are separate start lines for marathon and half marathon participants.
  • Marathon and half marathon participants merge at mile 2. From downtown, participants run through the Heights and Montrose neighborhoods. At approximately mile 9, half marathoners split off from the marathon course and return to finish at the GRB. 
  • Marathoners continue through Rice and West University, passing the Galleria, Tanglewood and Memorial Park areas, before returning to finish at the GRB. 
  • Finish line clocks display runners’ unofficial time. 
  • Unofficial results will be posted to the web site on race day. 
  • If it is determined that a runner has left the prescribed race course, that runner will be disqualified.

For some reason I have never raced 15k but I want too. I like the distance. This is one race I would like to do. Like the fact they also spread out their prize money.

Men's Olympic Marathon Trials 2012

On January 14, 2012, for the first time ever, USA Track & Field and the Houston Marathon Committee will host the men’s and women’s Olympic Trials Marathon on the same day, at the same site. This historic event will determine the three men and three women who will represent the United States in the marathon at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and will give the sport’s fans and media unprecedented access to one of the most prestigious marathons on the U.S. calendar.

The U.S. Olympic Team Trials Marathon course will start and finish in downtown Houston in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center, the hub of Houston Marathon race weekend activities. The men and women will complete a 2.2-mile inner loop through the heart of downtown Houston and then run the outer eight-mile loop three times to complete the 26.2-mile marathon. The top three men and top three women finishers will earn a coveted spot on Team USA that will compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games next summer.

The Men's race will start at 8:00am and the Women's race will start at 8:15am.  Here is a link to those athletes who have qualified to compete: http://www.houston2012.com/Athletes/M-Marathon.aspx

The next day is the Chevron Houston Marathon and part of the weekend activities.
