Zazzle Bay to Breakers

Zazzle Bay to Breakers 12k is one of the world’s largest and oldest footraces, held annually in San Francisco, California. The name reflects the traditional course which takes tens of thousands of participants from the northeast end of the downtown area near The Embarcadero (the "bay" side of the city) to the west end of the city and the "breakers" of Ocean Beach. The 7.46 mile (12 kilometer) race features world-class athletes in addition to costumed runners and 'fun-loving' folks out for a great day of running and walking through San Francisco

Beat the Bridge

The Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes is a fundraiser for JDRF, the largest nongovernmental funder of research to cure, treat, and prevent type 1 diabetes (T1D). The event is called Beat the Bridge because the University Bridge is raised during the race and the goal is to BEAT the raising of the bridge.

Capitol Hill Classic 10k

The course has changed from last year but still features some great sights. Most of the run is on East Capitol Street to and around RFK Stadium, back to the Nations Capitol. Previous years included running DOWN Capitol Hill on Independence Avenue to 3rd St Southwest, down 3rd to a turn-a-round. The best part is running UP Capitol Hill after FIVE miles into the race! Disappointed that part was taken out, I ran my best 10k on that course.

Rhody Run

The Rhody Run starts and finishes at the same point and covers a loop through a rural area with views of mountains, woods, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The course consists of mixed flat, hills and roads and can be a demanding course

California Classic Weekend Half Marathon

This exciting half marathon has many unique features. First, the half marathon starts and finishes inside of Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno. Runners will experience running through the newly renovated Downtown areas, passing City Hall, the newly built Federal Court House, the Granville Lofts, Eaton Plaza and the Historic Water Tower. Runners will head to the Valley’s only accredited Chaffee Zoo, where they will run past the elephants, lions, tigers and bears. Arrangements have been made to bring some of the animals out of their cages to spur you on. After being entertained by the animals, you’ll leave the zoo and run by one of Fresno’s most famous landmarks, the Tower District, where you will be cheered on by plenty of spectators.

Cox Providence Rhode Races Marathon

The fifth annual Cox Providence Rhode Races will feature a marathon, half marathon, 5k and kids fun run. With over 6,000 participants in 2011, Providence is one of the fastest growing, affordable races in the northeast! Race weekend kicks off Saturday, at Roger Williams Park with the 5k at 7:30 a.m followed by the Kids Race at the park. The Cox Sports Marathon will start at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, in Downtown Providence, Rhode Island. The Half Marathon will start at 8:00 a.m. from the same location.

The Over The Dam Run offers Pacific Northwest runners and walkers a great day on one of the most scenic and unique courses in the state of Washington. The Over the Dam Run gets its name from the Grand Coulee Dam, the largest concrete structure in North America, and of course the runners run over it. This classic running race has been around since the 70's. This year, for the first time, walkers and runners will finish in the heart of Grand Coulee’s annual Colorama Festival hosting a carnival, rodeo, parade, and much much more!

Susan Komen Race For the Cure

Nancy Brinker promised her dying sister Susan G. Komen that she would do everything possible to find a cure for breast cancer. She made true on that promise. In 1982 the Susan G. Komen movement began, and the now iconic pink ribbon is it's symbol around the world. Among the fundraising events are thousands of relay races/walks for a cure held in nearly every major city in the U.S. As part of this series the Komen Global Race for the Cure takes place in Washington DC.

Gum Tree 10K

The Gum Tree Run, directed by the Tupelo Running Club, is Mississippi's largest 10K. It has been recognized by "Runner's World" and "Running Times" magazines. Runners will be coming from all over the world to participate in the annual classic, as they have for over 30 years. UAE Healthy Kidney 10K

This 10k loop course wraps around Central Park’s rolling hills in a thrilling race sponsored by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to benefit the National Kidney Foundation.

The largest 25K in the country, the USATF certified loop course starts in downtown Grand Rapids on Monroe Avenue at Lyon Street and heads south, leaving the city to weave through parks and along the Grand River before finishing back downtown.

Newport 10,000

Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon

This scenic course runs through the Santa Ynez Valley. Santa Ynez is located less than 30 miles from downtown Santa Barbara. This race is part of the "Destination Races" series.

Quicksilver Trail Race

The 50K race is run on scenic, hilly trails and fire roads in Almaden Quicksilver County Park. The run is in close proximity to the Almaden resevoir.

Blue Cross Broad Street Run 10 Mile

This race has held onto the title of being the largest 10-Miler in the United States and it shows no signs of losing that title in 2012. Talk about a race that gets bigger and better each year. A 10-mile, point-to-point course (named one of the fastest 10-mile courses in the country by Runner's World) starts at the Central High School Athletic Field at Broad Street and Somerville Avenue. An urban course with runners packed shoulder to should the first mile the cheering crowds nearly outnumber the runners.

The Mountain Goat Run has experienced steady growth in participation, sponsorship and community interest. Last year over 3,000 people participated in one of the Mountain Goat Events and the 10-Mile Mountain Goat Run and companion 3k saw 30% increase in participation. The initial Mountain Goat featured a 3000 meter race and the 10 mile Mountain Goat.

Lilac Bloomsday

The Lilac Bloomsday Run was born during the running boom that swept the nation in the late 1970s. Local runner Don Kardong, who moved to Spokane in 1974, competed in several national class road races before and after his participation in the 1976 Olympic Marathon, and in the fall of 1976 he suggested to a local reporter that Spokane should have a downtown run of its own. The suggestion made its way into the newspaper's headlines.

Spokane was enjoying renewed interest in its downtown area after hosting the 1974 World's Fair (Expo '74), and a fun run that took advantage of the newly renovated downtown and Riverfront Park seemed a natural fit. Spokane Mayor David Rodgers encouraged Kardong to pursue the idea, the local Jaycees adopted it as a project, and Medical Service Corporation (now Premera) joined as the event's major sponsor, supplying financial support and organizational expertise.

At 1:30 p.m., on May 1, 1977, over a thousand runners participated in the inaugural Bloomsday Run, which was billed "Run With the Stars" in posters announcing the event. Olympic gold and silver medalist Frank Shorter crossed the line first, followed by Herm Atkins of Seattle and founder Kardong.

The success of the first year's race led to an even greater turnout in 1978. Publicity generated by a sanctioning dispute with local AAU officials also helped the race expand to over 5,000 runners. By its second year, Bloomsday was already enormous by any standard, and a victory by Boston's Bill Rodgers helped spread the event's national reputation.

In subsequent years the Bloomsday field continued to grow, reaching 57,300 in 1988 before leveling off for two years. In 1991, Bloomsday took another jump to 60,104, and in 1996 the event reached its all-time high of 61,298.

The Mini has sold-out for the past nine years with 35,000 registrants, and an additional 4,000 participants in the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K. The Mini-Marathon is the largest half-marathon in the U.S., and overall, the seventh largest running event in America. The 2011 event sold out on December 28, 2010. The 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Expo takes place on Thursday and Friday, before the half-marathon at the Indiana Convention Center. Participants pick up their race packets and visit the booths of more than 80 companies and vendors. The Expo is open to the public, with over 40,000 people attending.

Pike's Peek 10k

This 10k course is designed for speed. The start is on Redland Rd just east of the intersection with Sommerville Drive near the Shady Grove Metro Station. About 1/4 mile after the start runners make a left turn on to MD Rt. 355. From there it's a 190 ft. elevation drop, with some uphill sections, to the finish in front of White Flint Mall.

Trolley Run

24th annual event...The first Michael Forbes Trolley Run in 1989 raised $13,000 for CCVI with 778 runners participating. In 2001 the Sabates Eye Centers became title sponsor of the Trolley Run which remains the largest four-mile run in the U.S. as well as the home of the U.S. men's and women's four-mile records. There was 7600 finishers in 2011.

Cleveland 10 Miler Road Race

The Hermes Cleveland 10 Miler course will start runners at the upper level of Edgewater Park. Runners will head out of the park to Lake Avenue, and from there have a scenic tour of Cleveland's West Side and Lakewood, turning around near Webb Road and returning back on Lake Avenue. Runners will then take a left on West 76th Street and continue through Battery Park and the tunnel, to finish at the lower level of Edgewater Park.
