Rock 'n' Roll San Jose Half Marathon
The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half-Marathon featured a stacked field of elite male runners and the final times reflected it. Ryan Vail, 27, of Portland, Ore., won the men’s race in 1:02:46. Fernando Cabada, 31, of Boulder, Colo., finally back in good racing form after his disastrous performance earlier in the year at the Boston Marathon, finished second in 1:03:14, and Dylan Wykes, 30, of Canada was third in 1:03:47.
Daniel Tapia, 26, of Castroville, Calif., fresh off his victory a week ago in the San Juan Bautista Double Road Race™, finished seventh in 1:07:09, and Charles Matheri, 28, of Kenya, running in only his second race in America, finished 10th in 1:10:18, after being up with the leaders for the first 10 miles. In all, five members of Bob Anderson’s Ujena Fit Club finished in the top 10 – Cabada, Chris Chavez, who was sixth, Tapia, Adam Roach, who was ninth, and Matheri.
Canadians took three of the top four places in the women’s race in San Jose. Natasha Wodak, 31, of Canada was the winner in 1:14:39. Meagan Deakins, 23, of nearby Mountain View, Calif., finished second in 1:16:33, with two other Canadians following her across the line – Erin Burrett, 31, running 1:17:03, and Sabrina Wilkie, 28, finishing in 1:17:06.
